Anyway!
Here’s STUFF!

  • I am a grown-ass adult child, standing 5’0” tall. Yes, a millennial with no kids; just childhood trauma.

    So when my dear friends, with kids, ask me join the fam for kid-friendly activities —I get too excited! (And not just cuz it’d be weird if I went alone lol)

    I can let out that inner child, with my “rich tia” energy 💁🏻‍♀️
    (sn: never lose your childlike wonder!)

    Anywho! This is about my favorite NEW [kid-friendly] place w friends!

    (And I know what you’re thinking… but, NO —they do not serve alcohol lol)

    One of my besties, her daughter, and her daughter’s bestie happened to hang out on National Best Friends Day (the kids let us know this lol). And since school’s out/it’s summer, the girls wanted to go somewhere “active,” like bowling or Main Event.

    But due to limited time, my friend (Len) decided we’d enjoy the most of our time together if we went somewhere nearby.

    What she found: ACTIVATE.

    None of us had ever heard of it (apparently it recently opened), but their promo videos looked cool lol. So the girls approved to check it out!

    And you guys...

    IT. WAS. AWESOME.

    Activate was not what I expected, but in the best way.

    OK, so: they have a bunch of rooms each with different levels of live-action games that test your physical and mental agility.

    Yeah, I know. AWESOME.

    It was hard for any of us to capture our experience (specifically the youngin’ —recording for TikTok lol), so my old, shaky snippets [above] should make sense haha!

    We ALL really did get so in the moment —phones down (eventually; no matter how cool everything was) to just be present + work together!! 💖💖💖

📌 nancy notes for YOUR live-action gaming experience at ACTIVATE:

  • wear running shoes! 👟

  • there’s ~11 game rooms with different concentrations (so, 100s of combinations of games and difficulty levels!!)

  • the games last 1-3 minutes

  • you’re given an electronic wristband that tracks your score and progress

    • BONUS: after you’re done playing, you return the ‘band, but they transfer your info to a cute little keychain [with QR code] for your next visit!

  • ages 10+ (recommended) —also, now I know don’t need a kid to go again; just some friends lol

    Seth Rogen & Rose Byrne tricked me into going back a Substack post I never finished!

    • backstory: I wrote a note to myself [as I’m known to do] to write about friendships between men and women, which led to a lengthy Substack post I never published. Only cuz I wanted to trim it down. And admittedly, totally forgot about lol

    It stemmed from a common issue I’ve had in relationships of all kinds, or I like to say “ships” 🚢

    I truly have really great guys friends as well as girlfriends (all platonic), and through the years, it’s led to “issues” with my friends and/or my partner questioning the friendship.

    I think my note said something like: “normalize just being friends with people! No expectations; fully trust your company”

    • sn: i’ll update if I find the actual note, cuz i know it’s around me… somewhere

    Cuz honestly, you guys… it makes no sense to me. Like, if you start dating someone… become something together; aren’t you both supposed to trust each other? js.

    But I digress! (…more on this in that pending Substack post! teehee!)

    Platonic is another AppleTV+ gem, in that it is not only funny but explores all human emotions in different stages in life. You really can find yourself or someone you know through the characters/people on the show (see: Ted Lasso, Shrinking, The Problem)

    It’s a comedy (ofc) about former best friends [of the opposite sex] reconnecting, after one of them gets divorced.

    • ssn: AppleTV+ has been killin’ it with these new shows!! they just leave me wanting more. . . people to talk about these shows with 👀)

    Anyway, I really do believe friendships of opposite sex are important in life, and aware they’re v rare, so I cherish the ones I have.

    It takes mutual respect, as all “ships” should!

    Platonic reminded me of other classic platonic relationships people don’t talk about, like: Liz & Jack, Leslie & Ron, Cece & Winston [Bishop], and IRL Kristen Bell & Ryan Hansen💖 #normalizeit

    First off… 16 seasons?!

    I remember when the show started, only a handful of people watched and understood its humor. It was judged by people I know as show that would get canceled soon. (Like ‘canceled' in the way that word was used before 2020; meaning just pulled off air, kids)

    The gang’s 16th season has not disappointed me, yet. My only complaint: just one episode released a week 🙄

    What I noticed is new seasons are exploring things I started to question and explaining to OG viewers —in its absurd way, ofc lol.

    Since I’ve rewatched the show over so many years now, I finally got some answers this season. . .

    • Mac & Charlie’s other relatives

      • [1] Charlie has sisters?!!! I mean, we knew his mom got around but… !!

      • [2] Mac has an uncle!?! And he’s COMPLETELY opposite of his dad, Luther

    • Charlie’s DOORS.

      I legit thought he lived in a hotel or hostel —like, why else would they pee in jars and eat cat food LOL

      Now we finally learn dude has a full ass apartment!!

      Like, complete with an actual bathroom [he’s said was a storage closet] (left door) AND a F’N BEDROOM!!! (right door) 😅 I can’t.
